Marc Upton's trail-building journey started in 2010 when he attended his first volunteer trail work day with mountain bike advocacy non-profit, SORBA Tri-Cities. Shortly thereafter, he joined the board where he served as a volunteer in various roles including President where he advocated for mountain bike access, trails, and connectivity for nearly a decade. Working the various land managers and attending multiple trail education workshops during this time helped shaped his philosophy on what makes a successful trail system.
The opportunity to build trails as a career began when Barry Smith Trails needed help with the construction of the South Holston Multi-Use Trails in Bristol, TN. From there, he's had the opportunity to work with some of the best builders in the Southeast. Seeing firsthand the massive positive impact trails can have on people, he founded Rocktree Trails to create trail experiences that increase the quality of life for all.
